God's Truth

Love Lifted Me ...

LynGibbons@aol.com

At about the age of 7 years old I was backed over by a car in a driveway near my cousins house in New Braunsfels, Texas. The driver never even stopped, and it was never known if he even knew he had run over me. The amazing part of this accident is that the bicycle I was riding at the time was found down the road completely twisted and mangled, being dragged by the car up a hill. However, I was found sitting many feet from the accident in a ditch, Indian style picking grass. My head had gashes requiring stitches, I had a fractured skull and concussion. The officers that investigated the scene days later were amazed at the conclusions they had come up with. They had determined that the rear tire of the car had run over my head. The blood stained driveway where the impact was made left undisputable evidence of their observations. I had barely any scratches on the rest of my body. However, they were amazed that I had survived such a thing. I was only a small girl.

I overcame the entire experience without a single problem. It is common that possible seizures could result from such a blow to the head. My mother watched me carefully during the coming months, but there were no complications whatsoever.

At the age of 10 I went to summer camp with the kids of our church. I will never forget it as long as I live. Peach Creek! The name is still so familiar. One night that week during our usual time under the big pavilon, where the paster would give a short sermon, I gave my heart to Jesus. IT was the best night of my life. I so totally gave myself to Him. Our pastor, Bro. Dillard, was very proud of me and sat me on his lap in the front row. Tears were streaming down my face. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a big shiny 50 cent piece and gave it to me. Then at the end of the service the youth leader ask if anyone wanted to sign up to sing or do a skit the following night. I ran to the front and signed up. I wanted to sing a song for Jesus.

During the following day I heard from the other kids that anyone who had signed up to sing or put on a skit, would need to meet with the music leaders to rehearse. I trembled at the thought of rehearsing, and figured if I was gona sing for Jesus why did I need to rehearse it. I managed to escape their notice the entire day.

Then as time came for our regular service under the big pavilon I was all set and ready. My hair neatly combed. My best outfit on. And the perfect song picked out to sing to Jesus. As my name was called I rose from my seat and approached the pianist and whispered the song and page number of our hymnal. She looked at me, "but you didn't rehearse the song sweetie" she said. "That's ok, I'm singing for Jesus," I replied.

Standing on my tip toes behind the pulpit, I began to sing in front of at least a hundread kids my song to Jesus.

"I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore."

"Very deeply stained within, seeking to rise no more."

"But the master of the sea, heard my despairing cry."

"And from the waters lifted me, now safe am I."

"Love lifted me. Love lifted me."

"When nothing else could help, Love lifted me."

"Love lifted me. Love lifted me."

"When nothing else could help, Love lifted me."

My heart felt thanks to the Lord is that I know He lifted me during the accident that should have in every way taken my life. My song forever is, "Love Lifted Me."
